History of Bitcoin and NFTs: About the First Bitcoin NFT

In this article, I would like to talk about the relationship between Bitcoin and NFTs (non-substitutional tokens). In particular, we will take a closer look at the first NFT created on Bitcoin.

What was the first NFT on Bitcoin?

Looking back at the history of Bitcoin and NFTs, the first NFT was created by artist Kevin McCoy on a cryptocurrency derived from Bitcoin called Namecoin in 2014. It was called Quantum.

However, before the NFT concept was officially born, a user sold a digital image for $1 using Bitcoin in 2010. The user’s name was Sabunir, and while this act was not the world’s first NFT sale, it was a perfect example of how NFTs work.

NFT Collection on the Bitcoin Blockchain

The first NFT collection launched on the Bitcoin blockchain was “Bitcoin Shrooms,” a collection of 210 pieces of Bitcoin inspired art. This collection was recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain and represented by serialized Satoshi, or “Ordinals”!

NFT Marketplace on Bitcoin

The Bitcoin NFT marketplace was officially launched by a platform called DIBA, the first Bitcoin NFT marketplace using RGB smart contracts and dedicated to storing unique digital assets (UDAs) such as music and art. The BitMask bitcoin wallet was also introduced.

And while NFTs have been tied to the Ethereum blockchain, UnicoNFT became the first NFT marketplace to use bitcoin and bitcoin latinum, opening up more options for NFT transactions.

The above is a partial history of Bitcoin and NFTs. From this information, it is possible to understand how bitcoin and NFTs have related to and influenced each other. The relationship between bitcoin and NFTs will continue to evolve in the future.
